  • Coaching Strength & Conditioning Principles

    Course Description:  Coaching Strength and Conditioning Principles is an online course and test based on the text, Bigger, Faster, Stronger. The course content is a research-based approach. 
    Prerequisite: None 
    Course Objectives: 
    • Explore the scientific principles, concepts, and theories of strength training and conditioning as well as their applications to athletic performance
    • Investigate  key topics and current research in exercise physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, biomechanics, endocrinology, sports nutrition, and sport psychology   
    • Analyze the design of safe and effective strength and conditioning programs
    • Learn techniques for warm-up, stretching, and resistance training exercises 
    • Gain insights into testing and evaluation, including the principles of test selection and administration as well as the scoring and interpretation of results
    • Examine facility design, scheduling, policies and procedures, maintenance, and risk management
  • Sport-Specific Technical and Tactical Skills
    Course Description:  This course will help participants learn how to teach the skills and strategies, techniques and tactics for specific sports like basketball. You’ll learn about approaches to coaching, including the games approach (an alternative to drills-based coaching. Participants will develop a season plan and a series of practice plans. and will improve the ability to coach during games. This course is suitable for high school coaches and for serious club coaches, college coaches, and advanced coaches at the youth level. Participants will learn about the roles and responsibilities of a coach, as well as the skills and techniques needed to effectively lead athletes. The course will also cover topics such as sports psychology, strength and conditioning, sports administration, and athlete preparation for peak performance. Through this course, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the basics of athletic coaching.
